TND and our many partners are hard at work building new affordable homes with over 600 homes in our production plan. Yet, given the magnitude of our region’s housing crisis, we at TND acknowledge that we can’t just build our way out of our country’s affordable housing emergency. We must “Step Up and Speak Out” within our communities to find multiple ways of keeping people in affordable homes. For example, rental assistance has proven its value during the pandemic by preventing thousands of evictions. In Chelsea alone 1,250 households were able to secure support and remain in their homes. Yet, over 600 Chelsea residents are on waitlists to receive help applying for rental assistance from both TND and our partner La Colaborativa. TND also is providing space for residents to “Step Up and Speak Out” as advocates for more affordable housing.
