Hey all,
I hope you're all doing well. I wanted to share with you the way that this project evolved in my life, as it's developed into something bigger and very exciting! Thank you all again, for supporting me and being a part of this project.
Since I finished my trip in 2021, I've been collaborating with a professor at Chico State. This past fall, she hired me on to help with her nonprofit project, Paradise U. With the help of wonderful Chico State student volunteers, we provide free physical activity classes to elementary students at 10 schools in Chico. I like to say we get out the wiggles, bring in the smiles, and prepare our dear elementary students for focused classtime :)
In addition to collaborating with Chico State students, we're hoping to eventually introduce a program where high school students can earn college internship credit for volunteering, and possibly a volunteer program for seniors in the community as well. We're envisioning a program that truly connects members of the community to each other, all in the name of joyful movement! Not to mention, the cost of our intervention is significantly more effective than standard physical activity interventions... :)
If you'd like to learn more about the project, you can check out this article in Chico State Today: https://today.csuchico.edu/paradise-u/.
We'll also be participating in Chico State's Giving Day on March 1 to raise money for equipment. We can never have enough chalk and cones! It's a simple way to offer some support, if you are interested. Here's the link to that page: https://givingday.csuchico.edu/campaigns/paradise-u.
Thanks again for supporting the initial trip. I'm so glad to report that it's turning into a job I'm exceptionally passionate about and continually inspired by. I hope things are wonderful in all of your worlds!
Best,
Christine
Hello everyone! I realize I’ve forgotten to really update this page as I’ve been sharing most of my updates to the facebook and instagram pages. Just wanted to put up a final update.
I ended my trip in Nashville, TN and with your help, we raised just over $5,500 for physical education!
I’m so excited to say I believe all of the money will make positive and meaningful change beyond what I ever imagined was possible at the beginning of this journey. The money will do the following:
-develop a weight-neutral education resource page on supportrealteachers.org, free to access like the entire website!
-help provide additional physical education hours to students in Butte County, CA affected by wildfires
-help provide funds for physical education teacher students to attend educational conferences
Thank you all again for your support.
Sincerely,
Christine
Wow everyone! We are almost half way there.
For those of you who follow the social media, you saw that I did a little Weigh in Week Challenge recently. Just want to say THANK YOU to everyone who pledged and who’s donated so far. It sure helps knowing I have your support when I’m pushing 93+ pounds up over a mountain pass!
Hey everyone,
I have the link to my chat with Bobbi of KZFR if folks are interested. We talk about Spoke48, a little more about me and my background, bikes and of course - burritos! Check it out if you’d like: http://www.kzfr.org/broadcasts/25742
Week 1 of the ride is done and it’s been a blast so far. My body said “No No No!!!” for the first few days but it’s finally starting to come around 🤣
Best to all!
Christine
Wow!! We are almost a quarter of the way to my goal and I haven't even left yet!
Thanks everybody. I'm so excited to see where it takes us.
I had the pleasure of chatting with Will Denner last Friday for a little write-up. Check it out if you're interested! Best to all,
Christine :)
Hello everyone!
I'm excited to finally get this project off the ground with the donation page. I wanted to go ahead and plug the Facebook page as well. During the trip (funded by me) I'll be posting updates. After the trip, once we start using the donations to support schools, you'll get to see the smiling faces that your money helped support!
You can find it @spoke48 on Facebook, or by clicking the link: https://www.facebook.com/spoke48
Thanks all :)
