SOS SUP TITICACA UROS 


We are a non-profit association aiming to make Stand-up Paddleboarding accessible to the Uros community in Perú on Lake Titicaca. 


Uros are the oldest native group in Titicaca and recognized by Perú government as lake protectors. Paddling a board is natural for them, training and competing the next step. 


Their existing skills for paddling and relationship water from navigating on small reed boats and living on floating islands are an asset to develop an athletic pool of SUP on Titicaca Lake.



We created our association and aim to converge the Uros community, competitive sports, protection of the ecosystem, education, personal development and empowerment of women through competitive sports introducing a new recreational activity and economic source. 


Our actions have proven raising awareness on the health benefits gained daily exercising and the importance of preserving the natural biodiversity of the lake. 


    


Collected funds support our mission and projects:

  • Provide more equipment for SUP and gym and introduce SUP as a scholar activity (currently only 1 island is equipped with gym and 2 boards sets)
  • Provide our committed local athletes from the floating islands of Uros Titino with a training plan and coach
  • Organize a SUP event on the lake for locals, SUP amateurs from around the country and from abroad to compete in the natural reserve of the Titicaca Lake 
  • Support Uros committed in their preparation and participation to local and international SUP races 
  • Organize lake crossing multi-days events to connect locals and international SUP passionate sharing their love for this sport while exploring the lake surroundings.
  • Have a floating island dedicated to training and SUP activities, accommodating SUP camps for locals and international SUP lovers. 
  • Support locals and introduce a SUP equipment production in Puno area to impulse SUP development and create new income opportunities around the sport.
  • Promote local artcraft and traditional heritage inclusion in the merchandising of the organization.
  • Open a new option for tourism, sports-tourism activity on the islands of Uros Titino including bird watching in the natural reserve of Lake Titicaca.
