"Snapshots and Serenades" is Sputter Box's highly anticipated debut album composed almost entirely of pieces commissioned by our ensemble. This album showcases our mission to expand and promote the repertoire for our unique instrumentation and represents the wide range of musical possibilities for our clarinet/bass clarinet, soprano voice, and percussion trio. “Snapshots and Serenades” will be the first album entirely composed of works for this instrumentation.
This album will feature the following works: "Snapshot of the Red Eclipse'' by Allison McIntosh, "Séance Serenade" by Brendan Sweeney, "Stillness to....." by Daijana Wallace, "Doublespeak" by Bethany Younge, “Exchanges” by Martha Callison Horst, and “vita vana” by Filippo Scaramucci.
Each piece showcases the ensemble in a different way, demonstrating the range of this unique instrumentation. The musical styles on this album include an art song (McIntosh), a satirical manifestation of contemporary music juxtaposed with standard operatic arias (Sweeney), a work that dissects language into individual sounds of words using extended instrumental and vocal techniques (Younge), a piece reflecting on moments that made life stand still (Wallace), a dark and intense work featuring constantly changing time signatures and only bass drum in the percussion part (Scaramucci), and an arrangement showcasing the blend and seamless exchanging of sounds of our ensemble (Horst).
This album was recorded, edited, mixed, and mastered by GRAMMY award-winning audio engineer, Mike Tierney, and will be released on New Focus Recordings.
All proceeds from this campaign support the costs of recording, post-production, and releasing this album. Any donations above our campaign goal will directly pay the performing artists on this album.
