بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

As Salāmu Alaykum Wa Rahmatullāhi Wa Barakātuhu

Shonakanda Baitullah Jami Masjid is a masjid located in the village of Shonakanda which is built on an island in southern Bangladesh. Over the last few decades this masjid has faced the difficulties of the harsh climate. The masjid was initially built with temporary materials such as tree trunks and a tin roof. However, after a short while, due to the harsh land erosion, the masjid had been destroyed several times. In 2008, at the request of the community, our father, Hadhrat Mawlānā Sheikh Ashraf Ali Sikder (raḥimahullāh) donated the a piece of land and built the current structure of the Masjid. However, there was no foundation built due to the concern, the land erosion would continue. Al’hamdulillāh, it’s been 16 years and the land had stopped eroding. Al’hamdulillāh, our father also built a madrasah next to the masjid where around 150 students receive their primary Islamic education.

Due to the lack of foundation, it has caused structural damages and we need to reconstruct the whole masjid.

The Masjid can accommodate approximately 150 worshippers on the ground floor and a further 200 in the courtyard. The Masjid is currently in need of urgent funds due to the structural damages which is a safety risk. Without a proper structure, the community is struggling to pray safely causing great inconvenience especially in the monsoon and winter seasons.

The cost of reconstructing the masjid will be approximately £17,000.

The prophet ﷺ states in an Hadith,

مَنْ بَنَى لِلَّهِ مَسْجِدًا بَنَى اللَّهُ لَهُ بَيْتًا فِي الْجَنَّةِ

“Whoever builds a mosque for Allah, Allah will build a house for him in paradise.” (Bukhari & Muslim)

Let’s be a part of this continuous charity. Even after we leave this world, we would still receive the rewards of people praying in the masjid In Sha Allah!

It’s the month of Ramadhan, the month of giving, the month of mercy and the month of forgiveness.

Allāh promises to increase our reward multifold when giving charity.

“Indeed, those who practice charity have loaned Allah SWT a goodly loan; it will be multiplied for them and they will have a noble reward” - Holy Qur’an (57:18)

Above all else, these rewards are multiplied during the blessed month of Ramadan. It is a month where we can cleanse and purify our soul and get even closer to our Creator.

Whatever your amount of donation is, always have a sincere intention that you are solely doing it for the pleasure of Allah.

The prophet ﷺ states in a beautiful Hadith,

مَا نَقَصَتْ صَدَقَةٌ مِنْ مَالٍ

“Wealth does not diminish by giving Sadaqah (charity)”. (Sahih Muslim)
