Southeast CDC's 50th Anniversary

What does community mean to you? Neighbors gathered on front steps under string lights on a warm summer evening? The sounds of children playing on safe, colorful, modern playgrounds in neighborhood parks and schoolyards? Safe streets for them to walk to school? The smell of foods from all around the world drifting out of welcoming restaurants? Your culture reflected in the murals and galleries and performances, from formal galleries to street performances? Knowing that resources exist right in your neighborhood should you ever need help with food, housing counseling, home rehab, or credit? A place where small business owners have the support of their community and neighbors? Where you can find whatever you need within a short walk from home?

Through Southeast CDC, the many neighborhoods and residents of Southeast and East Baltimore have been working to make all of the above possible for 50 years now!

None of this would have happened if neighbors hadn’t come together a half century ago to found South East Community Organization and Southeast Development, Inc, our parent organizations.

From our origins in the fight to preserve the very existence of southeast Baltimore communities by stopping the path of the interstate highway through Fell's Point, to our most recent victories helping longtime renters in the community become first time homeowners, Southeast CDC has been here through five decades of community building.

We do this through:

Housing and credit counseling, for homeowners and renters.

Community school programs to support families with basic needs to ensure students can learn.

Housing, park, neighborhood, and playground rehab projects to keep our community clean, inviting, and vibrant.

Main Street and Arts District programs to support our small businesses and artists, to make sure residents and visitors can find everything they need here in Southeast Baltimore.

Case management and financial assistance to families at risk of losing their home or having a utility turnoff.

None of our successes would have been possible if neighbors hadn’t invested with their time, energy, resources, and most importantly, presence, to make our southeast neighborhoods so vibrant for five decades now.

Honoring those who helped make and keep our neighborhoods strong, and building the foundation for another successful 50 years to face whatever challenges come our way, we invite you to contribute $50 for 50!
