Jamie Miller is an award-winning Director/Producer of documentary, narrative, music video and commercial work. She is passionate about crafting poetic human portraits in a moment of transformation within a cinematic landscape.
Seachange Films is her production company under which she creates work that feels as passionate as her own draw towards the ocean. As a producer and a director, Jamie is often commissioned to lead a production for her story-focused visual sensibilities, as well as her practical, thoughtful experience in the industry and dedication to running a set with care as well as efficiency. Her wide skill-set means she is constantly finding the balance of work that can sustain a life with space for the creative process.
Donating to Seachange Films supports Jamie directly in carving out the required space and time for the essential steps of creating her next film. The long-term work of development, production and distribution for an independent filmmaker are often unpaid or under-paid, considering the amount of hours that Jamie personally puts into the full life of her projects.
Your donation will be going towards:
- Research - Conceptual & Visual: inspiration and exploration of story ideas through practical and digital resources; collecting film, music, literary references used throughout development process
- Story development: crafting story outlines, key characters, themes for pitch materials & proposals
- Visual & Technical treatments: developing the look and feel of the project for proposal to funders and collaborators
- Screenwriting: drafting out the full story into script format, editing, story consultation
- Funding/Grant applications: Preparing and tailoring materials to secure core funding for each project
- Pre-production: time spent for meetings, scouting, technical research - outside of budgeted prep period
- Business overhead: software, data storage, equipment, incorporation costs, banking fees, insurance, website, etc.
- Promotions: festival submissions, social media management, travel for festivals/markets, designing and printing marketing materials
- Distribution: securing sales and screenings, preparing materials for technical requirements of different venues, DCP creation, versionning, creating accessibility tools
There are funding programs for various aspects of production, but the reality is the bulk of the work of an independent filmmaker includes unpaid labour in all of these areas. Without consistent financial support, the cash flow required to sustain this work in between core-funding payments is extremely limited.
By donating you are helping sponsor a full film-making career, and elevating this work to its greatest potential.
With your donation, you will receive Special Thanks in the final credits of any film developped in the calendar year of your sponsorship, as well as a private link to an online screener once the project is completed.
Thank you for your ongoing support of Seachange Films. Every effort to share and celebrate Jamie's work is deeply valued and is integral to her development as an artist.
