We started in 2018 as part of an extension project at the Federal University of São Carlos (UFSCar). Later, we joined forces with students from the University of São Paulo (USP), São Carlos campus.
In the following years, we continued to grow internally, bringing together members with diverse profiles, not just from São Carlos. We restructured our business model several times until we reached the one we've been working with since 2021, when the first people were supported by Se Mudando.
Se Mudando is set to revolutionize the way society and the State address the challenge of homelessness in Brazil.
We were created to have a lasting impact on people’s lives, reintegrating them into society through our program based on the Rapid Re-housing methodology. This approach, which has proven successful abroad, is more efficient in the reintegration process and less costly for the State compared to national strategies.
The mission of Instituto Se Mudando is to break down barriers and be a part of transforming the lives of people experiencing homelessness by promoting their reintegration into society.
According to the Secretariat of Citizenship and Social Assistance of São Carlos, there were approximately 246 people experiencing homelessness in the city as of 2020, before the pandemic. With the support of the community, we aim to change this reality and provide a dignified life for these individuals through our program.
As of July 2022, Instituto Se Mudando has been helping 6 individuals who were experiencing homelessness achieve independence. To accomplish this, we provide housing, supplies, and support in securing employment, fostering autonomy and responsibility among those we assist.
One of the ways we make our work possible is through monthly donations collected via the Donorbox platform. The funds raised are fully* allocated to covering rent, basic housing utilities, food, hygiene products, and expenses related to health and skill development for the individuals we support.
