Scotty is a 25-year-old Belgium draft gelding. He was brought to the horse auction in October, 2020 when he could no longer be used as a working draft horse. The grooved indent of his face, and permanent grey halter outline indicated years of human servitude. His depressed expression in his eyes reflected he was resigned to his fate. However, hope was not lost, Manitoba Horse Rescue successfully bid to save Scotty from the kill buyer in October, at which point we transported him to safety to our sanctuary. It was clear when he arrived that Scotty had not known affection or love for some time. His stoic, reserved demeaner towards humans has changed since arriving however. Scotty comes running towards for attention when he sees us. Apples and carrots are his favorite treat. He immediately bonded with another auction pony; a tiny mini weanling pony named Scout. The two can be seen quietly munching on the same hay pile together. Scotty often spends his day in quiet reflection. A gentle giant, who will spend his retirement days surrounded by friendship and love with all the other residents at the Little Red Barn.
