Los Amigos de la Esquina (LADLE) A.C. is a learning community that generates experiences and daily recreational activities focused on art, wellbeing, and  environmental consciousness to local Mexican children living in Tulum.

Schools in tulum were already in dire need pre-pandemic and 11 months in schools are still closed. WiFi is a luxury many of our kids don’t have in their homes and the little bit of school they have comes from the television.

LADLE has stepped in to fill gaps where we can, all on our bases of art, wellbeing, and environmental consciousness.

We started english classes to prepare them for success in this tourist town, began teaching them the principles of running their own business, and host daily workshops to encourage personal growth.

We are also starting our official residency program in March 2021, where experts in the fields of physical and emotional wellbeing, arts, music, environmental sciences and more stay in the airbnbs right beside our school, to teach our students, families, and staff life skills and provide tools that will make our community´s life and future brighter. We want to provide our students and their families equal opportunities to educational experiences, cultural classes and art!

Our dream is to give these kids all of the opportunities that they deserve. We dream of a reality where our kids have tablets and computers so they can become computer literate and fill the gaps in their schooling with access to programs like khan academy and Duolingo.

In our new building we want to have a library where kids can get cozy and get ready for story time and travel into their imaginations.

A library will offer opportunities for mentors to come and teach kids to read and write.

We dream of them sharing their Mayan culture, roots, and traditions through technology to encourage their peers and neighbors to embrace a culture the western world put down for so long.

Our dream was to give them activities, now we host activities 6 days a week. We dreamt of a building, now we have a 2 story community center. Now we dream of their futures and the amazing opportunities that are waiting for these magical kids that infuse every moment with love, compassion, and fun. These kids are the most wonderful people I’ve had the privilege of meeting.

Welcome to the family.
