The Support Bridge for Students with Disabilities (SBSD) is a non-profit (NGO) organisation that is devoted to the care, treatment, feeding and education of the disabled and disadvantaged children of Tanzania. Their school feeding programs, agricultural based skills training initiatives, sport based therapies, clubfoot corrective surgery procedures and far-reaching support services provide disabled children and students with the opportunities they need to become as equally valued members of the community as those without disabilities.

* Perform corrective surgery, medication and aftercare for one child with clubfoot - $6040

Essential financial support is required to maintain SBSD's School Feeding Program and to improve the nutritional content that is so vital for a child's healthy growth and immune system in communities severely impacted by increasing cases of malnutrition. There are some 3.5 million children in Tanzania deprived of even a basic daily meal. SBSD currently feed and care for 500 of these hungry children, but they need to reach many, many more - quickly. Your donation will feed a child or student for a year and provide them with a meal a day and a hope for their future.
Clubfoot (or Talipes Equinovarus) is an idiopathic, neurogenic or syndromic deformity present at birth that causes the foot to turn inwards and downwards. The condition if not treated early leads to an inability to walk without assistance and impedes chances in life either as a result of diminished mobility or, far too commonly, the stigmatization that is often attached to disability. The program for the treatment of children and babies born with clubfoot is a core service provided by SBSD and urgently requires ongoing funding to continue the life-changing surgical and non-surgical procedures it performs. SBSD operates a crucially important Home Visit service to disabled children and students, their families and those effected by disability (often in remote villages). The progressive work they do in the field is imperative to those they help and provides a much needed support network relied upon by so many. But, they need to extend their reach in order to support more families with disabled children in dire circumstances. SBSD are committed to the campaign for the rights of girls and women and nowhere better is this demonstrated than through the fundamental work they do for the disabled within this already oppressed minority. Frequently victimized for their gender, girls and women with disabilities are further restricted by the negative attitude of a society that is insufficiently educated to the benefits of equality and diversity. SBSD are changing this attitude, but need your financial assistance so as to continue the fight against these and other injustices. Sport provides both immediate and long-term relief and benefit to children and students with disabilities - it helps them achieve a more active and healthy lifestyle, assists in the alleviation of discomfort, aids mobility and encourages equality whilst developing their sense of self-worth and community involvement. SBSD provide medication and clothing to children with albinism - a condition that still causes rejection by communities and families and often hostile prejudice. Without their support and assistance, these marginalized children would suffer even more. And with your help, SBSD can fight this prejudice and encourage the inclusive environment that children with albinism crave.
