The Committee to Save Shabbona Library is in need of donations to help pay the legal fees associated with a referendum to convert the library from a village library to a district library.  This referendum will allow us to extend services and ultimately a tax to unserved areas of Shabbona Township.

Shabbona Village residents would see NO INCREASE in taxes. Unincorporated Shabbona township residents would see a tax increase of .00167, a small investment with a tremendous payoff!

We understand that this referendum may not be popular with some people, but our goal is to convince those people that there is a great value in this investment.  The alternative is the loss of the local library which will lower property values, eliminate "close to home" activities, educational opportunities, and services for children and immobile adults; loss of public computers for individuals needing to apply for jobs, update their resume, or take an online exam, and that's just the beginning.

In the months to come we will host community meetings where folks will be invited to learn why the referendum is needed and how libraries add value to communities.

Please help us save the library by making a donation in any amount.  We would also be very grateful if you could share this campaign with others.

Thank you, truly.

The Committee to Save Shabbona Library

“A library in the middle of a community is a cross between an emergency exit, a life-raft and a festival. They are cathedrals of the mind; hospitals of the soul; theme parks of the imagination. On a cold rainy island, they are the only sheltered public spaces where you are not a consumer, but a citizen instead”
― Caitlin Moran
