What's Happening?
The internet is how most of us consume media nowadays, be it entertainment, art, or news. A new bill, known as Bill C-18 was passed on June 22nd, 2023. This bill claims that digital platforms derive economic benefits in the form of ad revenue from content that they do not produce. So, this bill is intended to make tech companies such as Google, which owns YouTube, and Meta, which owns both Facebook and Instagram, negotiate compensation deals with news organizations for posting or linking to their work.
Who Are We?
For the past nine years, Five Points Media has been tirelessly dedicated to making a positive impact. We've donated over 300 captivating video programs, providing an astounding $600,000 worth of services to over 180 charities and benevolent organizations that strive to create a better world for all.
We are currently the only fully progressive media in Barrie and the only independent and non-corporate media service in central Ontario.
At Five Points Media, we firmly believe that media has the power to create positive change. Our mission is and always has been to provide a platform for underrepresented voices, foster community engagement, and support charitable organizations through our programming. We have worked with and assisted community groups and charities including but not limited to; The Women and Children’s Shelter, Youth Haven, UpLift Black, Pride, Kiwanis, Children and Families with Cancer, Animal Shelters and Rescues.
We have self-funded our initiatives so far, but with the introduction of Bill C-18, we have reached a point where external funding is vital to expand our reach and keep our doors open.
How Can You Help?
The internet is a powerful tool that helps us as a society do so many different things. Helping us is as easy as a click of a button. The best part is, the button press could be sharing our campaign link to your Facebook feed, text messages, Instagram DMs, WhatsApp and anywhere else you do your browsing so that we could reach more people to help us raise the money necessary to keep going.
