Sponsor a Rwanda Women’s Network Safe-Space
Sponsoring Safe Spaces is investing in the future of Women in Rwanda
Help us get a step closer to ending Gender Based Violence in Rwanda by sponsoring a Rwanda Women’s Network Safe Space.
“I created Rwanda Women’s Network, after the genocide against the Tutsi where women had suffered tremendously, often infected with HIV. I wanted to help women through the healing process, but at the same time, empower them, transform their pain into leadership as women of this country. To do this, we first needed to give women a venue that would make them feel safe. A space where they could feel comfortable, cry together and at the same time, a place where they can begin to find solutions to their problems”
Mary Balikungeri, Director and Founder of Rwanda Women’s Network”
Since 1997 Rwanda Women’s Network built and has been operating 17 unique Safe Spaces across 7 districts in Rwanda. Our Safe-Spaces are innovative venues for healing, empowerment and transformation towards equality. Each Safe Space supports over 2,500 women and girls, Victims of Gender Based Violence, a year.
The uniqueness of our model:
Our Safe Spaces are led by local women, often survivors of gender based violence. With ongoing investment and training by Rwanda Womens’ Network they provide counseling and referral to legal or medical support. They also empower their communities to actively end Gender Based Violence by raising awareness to women's rights. Read more about our stories of change.
In 2023, our goal is to build 2 additional Safe Spaces enabling more women in Rwanda to have access to care, information about their rights and feel empowered to break the cycle of violence in their homes and communities. Join us on this important mission.
