Rescuing and preserving the past of the English Midlands for over 50 years

Avoncroft Museum of Historic Buildings has been rescuing the built heritage of the Midlands since 1962, when a group of volunteers started the Museum by rescuing a timber-framed house from Bromsgrove dating back to 1450 which was about to be demolished.

Since then the Museum has rescued 30 buildings which faced destruction and transported them to our rural site in North Worcestershire, and re-erected them for the benefit of visitors from across the UK and beyond.  We have also been involved in numerous campaigns and restorations to preserve buildings on their original sites when this was possible.

The Museum uses the rescued buildings to show what life was like for the people of the Midlands in the past - especially everyday buildings which would not otherwise be preserved.  Our collection represents all types of peoples' homes and workplaces - not just those of the wealthy or aristocratic!

Avoncroft has done all of this without direct funding from local or national government - but has relied on the good will and support of millions of people who have visited and decided to support this work or from people who hope to visit in the future.

Please help support us by donating to the Museum's campaign to continue this important work

How very sad just cannot understand this awful, mindless vandalism. How can people possibly get pleasure from this damage.

Visiting Avoncroft is always such a joy. I knew the little chapel before it moved so I am sad it was damaged. The staff and volunteers are always so welcoming and accommodating - so sad that effort is wasted by thoughtless criminals.

Wonton vandalism so mean. How dare they do something like. This is our history if we didn't have places like yours we would not learn about times gone by. Keep up the good work and show these vandals they are a waste of space and didn't win.

So sorry to hear of this mindless vandalism. My husband and I have enjoyed many visits to your Museum.

My mother passed away last year and visiting your museum was one of the last days we had out with her. We had tea and cake in the lovely tea room, so sad to see all the windows broken and the damage caused by mindless individuals.
