Lee Vogler Announces Re-Election Campaign for Danville City Council
The citizens of Danville are invited to join in supporting Lee Vogler as he announces his candidacy for re-election to the Danville City Council. Over the past 12 years, Vogler has dedicated himself to serving the community, and by working together, significant progress has been achieved for the city. As he launches his re-election campaign, Vogler remains committed to continuing the work that has made Danville the Comeback City, on its way to being a thriving, vibrant community for all.
One of Vogler’s accomplishments is leading the effort to launch the bike share program in Danville. This initiative has been a tremendous success, enjoyed by thousands of residents and visitors alike.
In addition to the bike share program, Vogler has worked tirelessly to improve the well-being of city employees and their families. The city employee health clinic, which he championed, has been a game-changer. It is saving taxpayer money while providing top-notch healthcare services, boasting a 100% satisfaction rate from employees. This initiative underscores Vogler’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and the health of the workforce.
Supporting small businesses has always been a cornerstone of Vogler’s work on the City Council, as he believes they are the backbone of Danville’s economy. He proposed and successfully passed the elimination of the license fee for small businesses, providing much-needed relief to local entrepreneurs and fostering a more business-friendly environment. His appointment to the Virginia Small Business Commission further demonstrates his dedication to advocating for small businesses at both the local and state levels.
Lowering taxes has been another key focus of Vogler’s tenure. He led the effort to reduce personal property taxes, commonly known as the car tax, which will take effect in January 2025. Additionally, he has successfully fought for tax relief for senior citizens for three consecutive years, ensuring that elderly residents can enjoy their golden years without undue financial burden. Vogler will continue to push for further tax relief for all citizens if re-elected this November.
Public Safety is the most fundamental responsibility of a local government and Vogler led the charge for years to implement the community policing model that has now led to 30 year lows in crime. He has also fought for better pay for our police officers, firefighters and first responders.
One of the most significant projects Vogler has spearheaded is the recruitment of the Alexander Company to Danville. This partnership is revitalizing the historic White Mill, transforming it into a vibrant residential community that will soon be home to hundreds of residents. This project is a testament to the commitment to preserving heritage while fostering growth and development.
Throughout his time on the City Council, Vogler has consistently voted against harmful regulations that would stifle growth in Danville. He has also voted against utility and other fee increases. Vogler voted against the City Council pay raise , always putting the needs of citizens first.
Vogler’s campaign motto, “A Voice For The People,” is not just a slogan; it is a principle he has practiced throughout his 12 years on the City Council. He has made it a priority to be accessible to all citizens, attending events throughout the city regularly and interacting directly with residents through social media. Vogler is a champion for the people of Danville, always listening to their concerns and working tirelessly to address them. The safety, prosperity and well being of every citizen continues to be a top priority for Vogler.
Vogler is also deeply passionate about the youth of Danville. In addition to his advocacy for the youth summer jobs program, he has coached numerous youth sports teams, helping to shape the future leaders of our community.
Vogler’s service extends beyond the City Council. He has served on numerous boards, including as Chairman of the Danville-Pittsylvania County Regional Industrial Facilities Authority (RIFA), which has brought thousands of jobs to the region. He also serves on the Staunton River RIFA, the Danville Metropolitan Planning Organization, the West Piedmont Planning District Commission, the Virginia Housing Commission, and the Virginia Small Business Commission. Additionally, he is a Past President and current member of the Danville Kiwanis Club and serves on the Kiwanis Foundation.
Vogler attends Compassion Church with his wife, Blair, and their two children, Kingston and Ava. The Vogler family is deeply rooted in this community, as both children attend Danville Public Schools, and are committed to its continued growth and prosperity.
Not that long ago, Danville faced significant challenges. Unemployment was the worst in the state, crime rates were at an all-time high, and downtown was decaying. Today, thanks to collective efforts, unemployment is at its lowest in over a decade, crime rates are at 30-year lows, and the River District is an award-winning crown jewel. Danville’s population is growing, with more people moving in than out, ranking third in Virginia for that metric. Not only has Danville become known as the Comeback City, it has now been recognized twice as an All-America City during Vogler’s tenure.
These positive changes are a testament to what can be achieved together. Lee Vogler has been a contributing factor to these improvements and is committed to continuing this progress in the years ahead. He would like to thank each person who has supported and helped him over the years and now humbly asks for your support and vote this November to keep Danville moving forward.
