Our Ramadhaan Food Boxes provide enough food for iftaar and suhoor for the entire month of Ramadhaan, alhamdulillaah.
"Seek out the vulnerable among you. Verily, you are only given provision and support due to your support of the weak."
(At-Tirmidhi)
We are often asked, “𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘙𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘩𝘢𝘢𝘯 𝘍𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘉𝘰𝘹𝘦𝘴 𝘴𝘰 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘷𝘦? 𝘐'𝘷𝘦 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘢𝘥𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘢 𝘧𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘺 𝘧𝘰𝘳 £40 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘢𝘭𝘭 𝘰𝘧 𝘙𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘥𝘩𝘢𝘢𝘯."
Our reply is simple:
🤲🏽When we calculate the value of our food boxes, we do not treat the recipients any differently than we would treat our own families. 𝘞𝘦 𝘵𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘮 𝘌𝘟𝘈𝘊𝘛𝘓𝘠 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘢𝘮𝘦 𝘢𝘴 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘬𝘪𝘯.
🛒 I wouldn’t dream of saying to my parents that I’m spending £240 on my own family’s food but only £40 on theirs!
🧮 I’m not quite sure that it’s possible to feed a single person 𝘯𝘶𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘶𝘴 meals throughout Ramadhaan for £40, let alone a full family!
£40 for a month = £1.33 per day for a whole family
or
£240 for a month = £8 per day for a whole family.
𝘞𝘩𝘪𝘤𝘩 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘦𝘱𝘵𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘺𝘰𝘶?
📖 From the manners and etiquettes of giving charity is to give the best and the dearest of things and not only to give away things we no longer want. Allah says in the Qur’aan: “You shall not attain righteousness until you 𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘥 𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘭𝘰𝘷𝘦 (in the way of Allah [𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘺]). Allah knows whatever you spend.” (3:92)
🎁 We understand that not everyone who wants to help can afford to provide a food box for a full month. That’s why we humbly ask that you give what is 𝘢𝘧𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘢𝘣𝘭𝘦 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘺𝘰𝘶 so that the benefit can be passed directly to the vulnerable amongst us.
For some people, UKeff is a life-line at the lowest point in their lives, where other suport has been exhausted or non-existent. UKeff stand side-by-side with the vulnerable and oppressed in our community, offering hope and assistance to enable that person to move from dependence to independence.
We are based in Oldham but our work covers all of Greater Manchester and beyond. Amongst those we help are those who are struggling financially, asylum seekers and refugees, domestic abuse victims, the homeless and those at risk of homelessness.
We campaign constantly to Keep Zakat Local - to fulfill the Sunnah of the Prophet, peace be upon him, and to care for our neighbours in need.
