The Smallest Survivor: Trapped, Starving, and Forgetten
Three-year-old Hanin and her mother, Ahlam, are the smallest survivors of an airstrike that destroyed their home and took their family. Ahlam is now severely injured, her legs crushed, leaving her trapped in the rubble. Without mobility, she cannot reach aid; without an adult to collect food, Hanin has stopped crying, too weak to ask for a meal.
For weeks, they have been cut off, watching as grief and hunger consume their last reserves of strength. Ahlam’s words carry the desperate urgency of their situation: “How do you hide hunger from a child? She stopped asking for food. That terrified me more than anything.”
Hanin and Ahlam are not alone. Across Gaza, Cairo, and Greece, thousands of families have been stripped bare by war, living in makeshift shelters, lacking food, clean water, and dignity.
