Running Together for Change: Rainbow4Africa UK & Rotary Club Mid Wirral Chester Half Marathon
After the success of last year’s fundraiser, we’re back — and aiming even higher!
This year, Rainbow4AfricaUK is proud to join forces with Rotary Club Mid Wirral for a special charity half marathon. Together, we’re supporting our new project focused on advancing POCUS trainers’ skills, taking their expertise to the next level and expanding the impact of life-saving ultrasound training.
Rainbow4AfricaUK, in partnership with the Rotary Club of Mid Wirral, is launching a transformative project (target date Jan 2027) to reduce maternal and neonatal deaths in Kakamega and surrounding counties in western Kenya. Together, we are establishing a state-of-the-art ultrasound simulation lab at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) to provide advanced training to health workers (midwives, nurses and clinical officers) in prenatal ultrasound, after their initial POCUS workshop.
Using the ScanTrainer ultrasound simulator, trainees will gain up to 25 hours of additional practical experience — a massive leap from the current hands-on time during the POCUS training which require real patients. Online learning materials, tutors, and an automated booking system will help maximise reach and impact of this project.
This collaboration empowers local health workers to provide safer pregnancies, healthier babies, and stronger communities, combining Rotary’s local fundraising and Rainbow4Africa’s expertise in maternal health.
In summary the project aims to accomplish the following:
1. Establish a modern ultrasound simulation lab at MMUST.
2. Deliver intensive training to health workers (midwives, nurses and clinical officers) using ScanTrainer ultrasound simulators.
3. Train trainees according to an internationally recognised and standardised programme.
4. Provide online learning, tutors, and a booking system.
