OUR APPROACH
To unite together Traditional Owners from across Australia and other stakeholders to discuss the controversy surrounding one of Aboriginal Australia's most respected and culturally significant animal - The Dingo.
It is hoped that this will be the first of many conversations with other major stakeholders to be held and to present and uphold our cultural rights and obligations as First Nations people in Australia to protect the Dingo, advocate and lobby for non-lethal management to conserve and protect - The Dingo.
The concept is to hear the Aboriginal perspectives of Traditional Owners across Australia and create a foundation in which Aboriginal Ranger groups, Traditional Owners and Elders who have a vested interest can advocate on the conservation, research and protection of the Dingo through their IPA (Indigenous Protected Areas) programs.
This platform enables a strong Aboriginal perspective on the Dingo with the potential to develop a culturally appropriate policy framework that concretes Aboriginal people and their cultural values across current legislations that the Dingo is managed by.
The National First Nations Dingo Forum will empower Aboriginal Rangers and Traditional Owners, that will provide a pathway to self-determination, develop and implement cultural biodiversity solutions which promotes and aligns with reconciliation and closing the gap initiatives.
Advocacy and advocating for the Dingo algins with the foundations of the Queensland Indigenous Ranger program in that it acknowledges and respects the rights of First Nations people to advocacy. Therefore this discussion is vital for Aboriginal Rangers and Traditional Owners and will provide all perspectives from stakeholders for individuals to make informed opinions on this topic.
