We live in a small New England community. Recently our treasured natural forests and waterways were damaged by construction equipment, and a children's play area was destroyed. We're looking for help to manage the cleanup and restoration of our cherished spaces.
Our community cannot manage these costs alone. The purpose of our fundraiser is to raise money specifically to cover cleanup, restoration, and erosion control, all under the guidance of an environmental professional.
Our work will begin with cleanup and removal of debris and waste, and stabilization at the water's edge to prevent further runoff. Once this has been contained, we will move on to longer-term restoration and replanting.
These financial needs will ensure we can meet our critical goals: protecting shared resources, ensuring children have a safe place to play, and restoring our forests and waterways so they remain protected for the future.
We have had multiple conversations with environmental professionals that have shaped our estimated costs. Based on their initial guidance, we are projecting approximately $5,000-$10,000 for expert evaluations, $15,000-$20,000 for cleanup, debris removal, and responsible disposal, at least $20,000 for reforestation using native species, and $10,000-$15,000 for erosion control. We have set our goal at the low end, and any funds raised beyond that will go toward further restoration of the damage, including additional native plantings and erosion protection, restoration of the play area, and long-term maintenance costs such as irrigation and monitoring.
