Dear Friends,

I am trying to start a non-profit emergency assistance fund for pet parents in order to decrease the number of surrendered, rehomed, and suffering pets and pet parents. The fund will provide emergency assistance for vet bills, spay and neuter, behavior training, food, rent (if the family is in jeopardy of losing shelter with their pets), abandoned pet placement and more. I currently work as a State and County Agent for Macomb County Michigan providing emergency grants to Military Veterans. I am confident I can create, implement, and carry out this much-needed program. Through the Veterans program, some of the toughest emergencies I have seen involve Veterans with pets, including the inability to find shelter that accepts pets and the need for temporary placement, the inability to purchase pet food, and most commonly; the inability to meet their pets medical or training needs; leaving the pet parent no choice but to surrender their furry family member. This is heartbreaking for me as a pet Mom of 5 rescue dogs, 1 rescue cat, a bearded dragon, and 2 guinea pigs! I can help my Veterans with many things and am a Rolodex for resources within the county. However, I find pets is one area I am unable to assist with due to the lack of resources. I have gone through many hardships with my own rescues but stopped at nothing to get them the care they needed to not only survive but to remain in the loving home that rescued them from heartache, mental and emotional instability, pain and illness.

I am in training for dog grooming, so I can offer my services through the fund at no cost to the pet parent and/or rescue, etc. I have started (2) crowdfunding campaigns and am researching grants to get the fund started. I am going to place an ad for volunteers, but may ultimately need to pay employees. I can get by with a work-from-home atmosphere, as working beside my fur babies is my favorite place to be, but I will need to find a space for meetings, etc. I do plan to have a board and would like all decisions to be agreed upon as a team to ensure optimal results. I would eventually like to open a shelter and incorporate the "No Surrender Pet Fund" as a program to support it, as I plan to spend the rest of my life speaking for those without a voice.
Thank you for your time,
