In an emergency, preservation cannot always wait for fundraising.
The Kansas City Masonic Temple recently suffered significant chimney damage after a lightning strike. The impact destabilized the masonry, and pieces of the chimney began falling into the parking lot below. Because this created an immediate safety concern, the Kansas City Masonic Temple Historic Preservation Society had to authorize emergency repairs before there was time to organize a fundraising campaign.
Professional masons were brought in to address the damage. The repair requires removal of approximately 25 courses of damaged chimney masonry down to roof level, or until sound masonry is reached, followed by properly capping the remaining chimney.
The total cost of this emergency chimney repair is $6,782.12, including the lift equipment required to complete the work safely.
The emergency repair work is now nearing completion, but the unexpected expense remains.
We are asking members, supporters, and friends of the Kansas City Masonic Temple to help us offset the cost of this emergency repair. Donations to this campaign will directly support the costs incurred to stabilize the damaged chimney, make the area safe, and protect the historic Temple from further damage.
Sometimes historic preservation is about planning years into the future. Other times, it means responding immediately when a historic building needs us most.
Every contribution helps us absorb this unexpected expense and preserve the Kansas City Masonic Temple for future generations.
