Dear Supporters,
As you may have heard, POL-001.2 passed at General Assembly this year. Presbyterians for the Kingdom sent our President, David, to GA with the goal of stopping or amending this overture.
While David & others failed to prevent the overture from passing, he succeeded in removing the “principles of non-discrimination” language in committee from POL-001.2 via a speech he gave to the Polity committee. Additionally, he & others succeeded in amending POL-001.2 to include the “Historic Principles of the Church”. David stood outside GA & offered free conversations about the Olympia Overture and free shirts in opposition to the original language (to which he handed out over 100). These shirts and, importantly, the hours of conversations they sparked undoubtedly helped pass the amendment, as it was approved with 53% in favor. Despite opposition attempts to remove the shirts from the floor of GA and rule them out of order, David was careful to hand them out only on the public sidewalk outside Salt Palace.
We confirmed with a former member of the Permanent Judicial Commission familiar with polity that the amendment balanced non-discrimination with freedom of conscience, mutual forbearance, & promises to be guided by scripture & the confessions, which, without an activist PJC authoritative interpretation of the word “discrimination” in POL-001.1, will protect conservatives were both parts to pass. Our sources say such an interpretation is extremely unlikely because it would subsume the rest of the Book of Order to one section, notably negating the “Historic Principles of the Church” that Presbyterians have affirmed since the 1700s, now in POL-001.2. Ordinands can affirm these new questions with integrity, without compromising their beliefs or ceding their current practices regarding marriage & ordination.
That said, we do not support passing POL-001.2 at the Presbytery level, as we believe it severely lacks clarity. The Book of Order is better without it.
We want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your prayers and unwavering support. Although we have a long battle ahead, please know that you are making a significant difference. Your contributions enabled us to stand firm, be a visible presence at the General Assembly, and forge vital connections with leaders who share our vision. Together, we will continue to make our voices heard and create positive change. Thank you for standing with us.
"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Ephesians 6:12
With gratitude,
- Presbyterians for the Kingdom
Dear Supporters,
We hope this message finds you well. We are writing to extend our heartfelt thanks for your unwavering support and generous donations. Your contributions have been instrumental in enabling us to make a significant impact at the recent General Assembly.
Because of your giving, we were able to establish a strong presence at the General Assembly, speaking publicly against the overture that threatens our core values. Additionally, we purchased over 200 shirts that provided a visual counter-resistance, making our stance visible and united.
Your support also facilitated invaluable connections with other leaders in the community, and we successfully contacted the majority of the over 800 General Assembly commissioners, ensuring our voice was heard loud and clear.
As the General Assembly continues to vote and debate on these critical issues, we ask for your prayers. Please pray for wisdom, clarity, and courage for all involved, and for the outcome to reflect Biblical truth.
As we move forward, we are calling on your continued support. Our mission remains critical, and with your help, we can sustain our efforts to advocate for our cause, build stronger alliances, and prepare for future challenges.
Thank you once again for your generosity and commitment. Together, we are making a difference.
Due to your generous donations, Presbyterians for the Kingdom will have a presence at the Fellowship Community in April! We hope to continue to spread the word and make connections with theological conservatives within the mainline Presbyterian church!
