Plantamura for State House #66
Hands Across the Sand, Indian Rocks Beach 2015: Say “yes” to clean energy and “no” to offshore oil drilling.
As a six year elected City Councilor in the Tampa Bay area I realized that even if people won’t acknowledge the existence of climate change, public policy can still be directed responsibly toward environmental protection. This was done in Seminole by building LEED certified buildings, retrofitting older buildings, and not developing coastal land but instead buying it to make a park. Rather than naming “climate change” it was necessary to emphasize economic advantages of these projects and quality of life.
Florida state and local government revenue will be adversely impacted by COVID-19, along with large and small businesses. Economic benefits of maintaining Florida’s tourism and agricultural enterprises are important. Equally important are protecting our environment to maintain a quality of life and the public health of those of us who live here. Government must be part of efforts toward healthy air and clean water, and maintaining our coastlines—which include no offshore drilling, and dealing with aging sewer system infrastructure which exacerbates red tide.
This election year can be a tipping point—a make or break opportunity to work for a healthy environment by electing people with critical thinking skills who can direct our State. We need leaders who understand that a healthy economy and a healthy environment are not mutually exclusive goals. Count me among those leaders. I ask for your support to be part of efforts in District #66 to protect our Florida home.

P.S.
2020 is the 100th anniversary of the Constitutional Amendment granting women the right to vote. In order to better represent Florida’s population we need more women in leadership roles in our State House.
