Goal
I am asking you to make a gift to the Philly Birth Fund today so we can reach our initial fundraising goal of $50,000 by the beginning of Black Maternal Health Week in April!
The Philly Birth Fund provides direct support to Black women, Black birthing people and their families in Philadelphia wanting to give birth at home by providing grants for care from midwives who specialize in homebirth. The work of the fund is one effort to combat the inexcusable inequities in Black maternal and infant mortality and morbidity-- disparities that are rooted in harms from racism. As you know, I have always been committed to increasing homebirth access in my many years as a practicing community midwife. Even though I'm not currently serving clients for homebirths, I'm so grateful for this opportunity to support the mission and vision of this fund and support Black families seeking homebirth and homebirth midwives in a new way!
The Philly Birth Fund was initially established as an immediate "Go Fund Me" response to the need to support families choosing homebirth during the especially intense early part of the pandemic. However, the Philly Birth Fund recently received our 501c3 status and are now fundraising in earnest so we can get back to awarding Birth Fund grants as one tool to advance Black maternal health equity in the Philadelphia region!
Even if you aren't able to give today, please consider sharing this appeal with your friends and family and sign up on our website to receive updates about the Philly Birth Fund as we move forward!
