Join Disaster Tech Lab in Making a Difference: Empowering Communities in the Philippines!


Together, we're embarking on a significant journey as Disaster Tech Lab returns to the Philippines to continue the vital work we started after the devastating impact of typhoon Haiyan in 2013. The typhoon struck on November 3rd, 2013, leaving a trail of destruction that displaced 4.1 million people, claimed the lives of over 6,000 individuals, and left 1,800 more missing. In response to this immense tragedy, our dedicated teams swiftly moved into action, providing essential assistance to affected areas.




During our initial mission, one of the communities we focused on was "Arapal," a rural enclave situated at the northern tip of the island of Cebu. In Arapal, we constructed critical communication infrastructure, delivered much-needed communication services, operated vital medical clinics, and conducted comprehensive training sessions for local volunteers, equipping them with essential first aid and medical skills.


Now, we are poised to return to Arapal for a follow-up mission that is as important as ever. Arapal has transformed into a beacon of community growth and support, fueled by the tireless efforts of its inhabitants. Educational workshops, livelihood training, food distribution initiatives, medical support services, an orphanage, and a school have taken root in this community. Despite facing significant challenges, the impact of our past work in Arapal has been undeniably positive. The community's aspirations now extend further, aiming to provide college-level ICT skills classes, offering young individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds an avenue for self-improvement.


Disaster Tech Lab has been entrusted with a pivotal role in this visionary project. We are called upon to provide essential internet connectivity and expertise to facilitate the upcoming classes. The initial step involves deploying a dedicated team to Cebu, responsible for installing a cutting-edge Starlink terminal to ensure the necessary bandwidth. Concurrently, our experts will assess the state of the network we established in 2014, determining if any enhancements are needed. Collaboration with the teaching staff is paramount as we refine the curriculum to meet the evolving needs of the community.
