Hello Friends,

Since our launch in 2020, our small team of black and brown academics and professionals has excitedly and successfully provided free STEM tutoring and mentorship for black and brown students. Your monetary donations will directly benefit our tutoring program and other services:

1) Onaketa Tutoring

To date, our tutoring and mentoring program has helped support over 90 students in the Oakland area and across the US. Our team of tutor-mentors are at the top of their respective fields in STEM, and provide individualized support for each of our students.

2) Onaketa Annual Dream Big Book Fair

Our Dream Big Book Fair is an annual community event designed to bring Oakland families together and celebrate the power of education, imagination, and the thrill of learning. We give away brand new children’s books featuring black and brown characters, and offer catered food, music, and art and science workshops.

3) Onaketa Rising Stars Scholarship

Each summer, we offer scholarships to at least four graduating high school seniors that have been accepted to a four-year college/university or junior/community college in the fall. To date, we have awarded Onaketa Rising Star Scholarships to 15 college-bound seniors, with awards totaling more than $10,000.

4) Onaketa Ghana

Onaketa is international! Onaketa Ghana is a tutoring/mentoring program for several dozen Ghanaian schoolchildren living in a village outside of Accra. The children, ages 6-17, meet as a group each week to receive help with school work from local educators and participate in enrichment activities. If you would like to learn more about our work in Ghana and how you can make a specific gift in this area, please contact us at info@onaketa.org.
