The Oldman Backyard Ultra is a unique running experience where runners try to complete a 6.7km lap every hour, for as many hours as they can. Why 6.7km? Because 24 laps = 100 miles (160 km). Fun facts: the current Backyard Ultra world record was set in 2024 at the World Team Championships in Belgium where 110 laps were completed (737 km) by each of 3 runners before they all quit at the same time. That is 110 hours or nearly 4.5 days of running with next to no sleep. The current record at the Oldman Backyard Ultra is 35 laps completed (2024, M. Shepard).
This specific event is also a run for a cause, supporting youth and families in Lethbridge who need it most!
Family and Friends, I am seeking out 'one-time' donations regardless of how many laps I complete, or 'pledges' for each lap I complete! At the event last year, I completed 10 laps and together with my awesome donors, raised almost $3000 for YOUTH ONE! Thank YOU SO MUCH!! This time around, I plan to do a minimum of 12 laps (50 miles), hoping for 15 laps (100 km), and dreaming of 24 laps (100 miles).
This year for every $1500 raised at the event, one youth is sponsored for a full year at YOUTH ONE, giving them free access to all programs, meals and support services. Charitable tax receipts will be issued for donations over $25. My goal is to inspire my friends and family to donate enough for 2 youth, $3000! Let's go!!
One time donations - To make a one-time donation, you can make that donation at any time here on my runner profile page. Select 'ULTRA' as the motivation code.
If you really want to push me, make a BIG 'per-lap' pledge! - Get in touch with me to let me know how much you want to pledge per lap. Once the race is complete I will follow up with your pledge-per-lap commitment and will let you know how many laps I completed. You can then make your total donation here.
When donating, select ULTRA as the motivation code. If you can, leave a message on my donor wall so I can say thanks!!
PRIZE FOR MY TOP DONOR!! I will gift you the can of beer that I get for participating (custom Oldman Backyard Ultra label)!

The Last Word. I will ALWAYS run in memory of my brother, Chris Kadijk. We started running together just before he was diagnosed with advanced metastatic colorectal cancer in June 2022. He fought hard but passed away at the age of 52 on January 1, 2024. I run for you, Chris. I wish we had more time but we'll catch up later!
