There are 5 main ways in which you could assist me to achieve my funding goal. I’d like to take a few moments to outline the ethos behind all my work, the main reason for my ‘Freedom = Responsibility’ funding campaign, and how you can participate.
Freedom = Responsibility
The funding campaign for Nic Briscoe's projects
Created: September 2023. Last update: 3 November 2023.
Hi, Nic Briscoe here.
= Author. Cultural-explorer. Recording-artist. Singer-songwriter.
I describe myself simply as an ‘independent creator'. It’s the term that seems to fit best. At any given moment I am a researcher, writer, tech-troubleshooter, designer, cameraman, lighting guy, editor, producer, sound engineer, presenter, interviewer, singer-songwriter, guitarist, musician, recording-artist, novice/expert, student/teacher, administrator, businessman. That’s what 'independent' really means. You do almost everything yourself.
At the same time as being ‘independent’, I’m also an interdependent collaborator. Everything I do depends upon financial contributions.
There are five main ways in which you could assist me in achieving my funding goal. They will provide the lifeblood for my projects. Below there are full details about how you can become a Patron, a Supporter, a Donor, a Fan / Subscriber, and an Advocate.
You can read about the ethos behind all my projects here.
You can follow the campaign's progress by subscribing to email updates (just below the ‘Donate’ form).

About my ‘Freedom = Responsibility’ Funding Campaign
I’m currently looking to raise funding to allow my projects to develop naturally, in a transparent, ethical, and sustainable manner. My overall goal is to raise up to £100,000 in order to establish all four projects during the next three to five years. Establish means that the projects reach a point where they begin to fund themselves naturally. The £25,000 initial funding is for everything needed during more or less the first year — so all the overhead costs including payments for all the necessary equipment, services, subscriptions, and salaries. I have a detailed staged plan. Anyone reading this can contact me directly via email (at info@nicbriscoe.com) to request details about it, and exactly what the funding is required for.
As mentioned, there are five main ways in which you could assist me to achieve my funding goal. They will provide the lifeblood for my four projects. They are:
1 Become a Patron
2 Become a Supporter
3 Become a Donor
4 Become a Fan / Subscriber
5 Become an Advocate
You could choose one of these ways or any combination of two or three of them.
Below you can find full details about each of these five main ways.
1 Become an essential Patron
Donate at least £50 per month for twenty-four months, plus a one-off donation of at least £500.
You’ll be one of the key initial project backers. I’ll use the donations from my patrons to — quite literally — kickstart my projects. I’ve done all my research. I know exactly what essential equipment and services are needed. I understand why they are needed, and how they should be used. I know what my next steps need to be. I literally just need to get busy and get things done. I’ll use patron donations to do exactly that.
If you wish to become a patron I ask that you commit to donating at least £50 per month for twenty-four months (so two years), and make a one-off donation of at least £500. Step #1 of my overall plan is to raise £10,000 for essential equipment and services I need for my projects, to successfully launch, and get everything off the ground. Your one-off £500 donation will go towards these essentials. Also, in plan step #1, I need a small amount of income each month to cover my basic overheads. Your £50 monthly donation will go towards these basic costs.
To become a patron please make the minimum £50 monthly donation (or any figure above that you choose) via my ‘Donate’ form. Just choose the ‘Monthly’ tab. Please tick the ‘Write us a comment’ box, and indicate in your comment that your monthly donation is as a patron (start with something like ‘I’m glad to announce I am now a patron of the freedom = responsibility campaign.’).
Then, once you’ve set up the monthly donation, you can go back to the ‘Donate’ form, choose the ‘One-time’ tab, and make the £500 (or any figure above that you choose) one-off donation.
If you wish you can choose to do all of this anonymously, in your preferred currency.
As a small token thank you for becoming a patron I can offer you two things.
Firstly I’ll give you free all-time access to my entire music discography here on bandcamp (you’ll receive an email telling you how).
Secondly, I'll give you free all-time access to my infotainment content here on Substack (again you’ll receive an email telling you how).
2 Become a crucial Supporter
Donate at least £20 per month for twelve months.
You’ll be the core of my funding. The backbone. Regular giving is what stabilises projects that initially rely upon funding. Your regular support will be absolutely crucial to the long-term success of my projects.
If you wish to become a supporter I ask that you commit to donating at least £20 per month for twelve months minimum. Having said that, twenty-four months would be more than perfect, as two years is the realistic amount of time I need to get my projects established sustainably.
To become a supporter please make the minimum £20 monthly donation via my ‘Donate’ form. Just choose the ‘Monthly’ tab (or a minimum of £240 via the ‘Annually’ tab). Please tick the ‘Write us a comment’ box, and indicate in your comment that your monthly or annual donation is as a supporter (start with something like ‘I’m glad to announce I am now a supporter of the freedom = responsibility campaign.’). If you wish you can choose to do this anonymously, in your preferred currency.
Of course, becoming a £20 monthly supporter will not be for everybody. I totally get this. So, of course, any monthly or annual amount received, no matter how small (or large), is gratefully welcomed. The power of accumulation should never be underestimated. Every little helps.
As a small token thank you for becoming a supporter I'll give you free all-time access to my infotainment content here on Substack (you’ll receive an email telling you how).
3 Become an invaluable one-time Donor
Give a One-time donation.
Maybe getting involved in a long-term funding campaign, and becoming a patron, or supporter is simply not for you? I understand completely. You can use the ‘Donate’ form’s ‘One-time’ button if all you want to do is chip in — your generosity and any amount are most welcome! You can make a very quick, in-and-out, direct, one-time contribution, with all major cards or PayPal. If you wish you can choose to do this anonymously, in your preferred currency.
4 Become a contributing Fan / Subscriber
Subscribe to my infotainment channels!
You can now view, listen and become a paying subscriber, or a founding member here on Substack.
Buy my stuff!
Every single purchase of my products that you make actively contributes towards developing and sustaining my four projects.
You can buy my music at bandcamp, where you can also buy my entire music discography at a 20% discount. My music is also available to download and stream online in many places for example iTunes, Apple Music, Amazon, Spotify etc.
You can buy my book in various places, including here at Leanpub , and on Amazon and Apple Books (search by author: Nic Briscoe).
Soon, you will be able to buy some of my mind-bom merchandise.
And, you can also buy an item from the list of essential equipment that these projects require. I’ll need SD cards, microphones, headphones, at least one iPad, one iPhone, and one MacBookPro, various displays, cameras, tripods, mounts, musical equipment, and money to maintain all of this etc, etc. I already have a comprehensive list. I’m currently figuring out how best to post that list (for example, maybe as a wish-list on Amazon), however, in the meantime, until I decide exactly how to do this, you can always contact me directly via email (at info@nicbriscoe.com), and I’ll supply you with a current list of exactly what’s needed.
5 Become a powerful Advocate
Share my funding campaign and my website details.
In addition to any of the above, you can also recommend me to others by sharing links to my funding campaign, and/or websites. To be clear, to become an advocate, you do not have to become a patron, supporter, donor, or fan. If, so far, you like what you’ve seen here, and on my website, and if you like my plans (listed on my How? page) you could share my domains:
https://nicbriscoe.substack.com
https://nicbriscoe108.substack.com
and/or my funding campaign link:
https://donorbox.org/nic-briscoe
with your social networks (eg Facebook, Linkedin, Twitter, Telegram, WhatsApp, email groups etc). You can also do this directly from here on this campaign page, by using the social buttons on the ‘Donate’ form. Sharing these links, helping me connect with other like-minded people, is a powerful endorsement from you, one that can never be taken for granted.
That’s it! That's my ‘Freedom = Responsibility’ funding campaign. Yes, I know I’m asking a lot! I’m asking for donations. I’m asking you to have confidence in me. I’m asking you to trust in me. In essence, I’m asking you to provide my projects with their lifeblood. I simply cannot develop any of my projects without your support. Your support is crucial. Your support is invaluable.
Thank you for taking the time to read all of this, and thank you so much in advance for all your support. I simply cannot thank you enough.
