Preservation Rocky Mount has been donated an old tobacco storage warehouse which will be the new site for storing our Architectural Salvage items for sale. This 20,000 sqft building is one of only a few buildings left standing that were a part of an industry that built our town and was an integral part of so many residents' lives and livelihoods. When walking inside, you can still smell the tobacco. Yet in its current state, it won't remain standing much longer. Having been vacant for over 20 years, it desperately needs a new roof, as the current one is over 40 years old, and literally peeling off the structure. After receiving several quotes, it has been determined that it will cost $120,000 to repair the roof deck, make some minor structural reinforcements, add a coverboard layer, cover the roof with a 60mil TPO membrane, replace all 24 skylights and repair the roof turbine vents. Time is of the essence, as we must vacate our current location on Falls Road by year's end, and the architectural salvage items we currently store are at risk of being destroyed. We need your help to bring this tobacco warehouse, an icon of our past, back to life. Together we can preserve and protect the architectural legacy of Rocky Mount, NC for generations to come.
