Hey everyone –
For those who don’t know me, my name is Matt Bozarth. I’m 28 years old, married to the love of my life, Gabriella Moraes, and I have stage 4 cancer. It’s not my first round — I actually beat a different cancer back when I was just 13 months old in 1998. But this time is different. My cancer is incurable, and I’ve recently been given five years to live.
Due to the symptoms from the disease and side effects of treatment, I had to stop working in March 2025. It wasn’t an easy decision, but it was necessary — and it’s led me to writing this note to you, whether you’re a family member, friend, acquaintance, former colleague, or even a stranger, with an ask: help support me and Gabriella as we navigate this next chapter.
As some of you may know, disability benefits — whether through an employer or the government — don’t fully replace income. In most cases, they only cover a portion (60–80%, depending on the program), and they may be taxable. That leaves a significant gap between what I used to earn and what I receive now. In my case, it’s around 60% of my previous take-home pay.
I’m currently working with a few limited sources to bridge that gap:
- Disability benefits from my employer and/or Social Security
- Terminal illness distributions from retirement accounts
- Monthly contributions from generous people like you
Many of you have already supported my medical fundraiser, which helped cover treatment-related bills, travel, and other expenses. Gabriella and I are incredibly grateful for that generosity — it made a hard situation a little lighter.
The outpouring of support sparked a new idea: what if that same kindness could also help us focus on living, not just surviving? If you’re in a position to help us with ongoing support, this donation page allows you to sign up for recurring monthly gifts. Every contribution — big or small — helps us cover daily expenses, reduce stress, and make the most of the time we have together. These funds will support everything from basic living costs to quiet, meaningful moments — shared dinners, short getaways, or simply breathing room to rest and connect.
If you have the means and desire to contribute in this way, we would be eternally grateful. Your support will help create valuable memories for Gabriella and I in my remaining years - memories that Gabriella can cherish long after I'm gone. If not, just sharing this page or keeping us in your thoughts means the world to us. Words cannot express how grateful we are for your support and consideration.
With immense gratitude,
Matt
