ML Collective (website, Twitter) is an independent, 501(c)3 non-profit organization with a mission to make research opportunities accessible and free for Machine Learning researchers of all backgrounds, especially underrepresented, underprivileged, and independent researchers.
Deep Learning Indaba (website, Twitter) is the annual meeting of the African machine learning community with the mission to strengthen and support Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence in Africa. After not taking place these past two years, Deep Learning Indaba 2022 will be held in Tunis, Tunisia, from the 21st to the 26th of August. The conference is particularly interested in increasing the number of Machine Learning research personnel across Africa. After a rigorous selection process with less than 20% selection rate, Deep Learning Indaba aims to engage 350 (academia and industry) members of Africa’s artificial intelligence community for a week-long event of teaching, research exchange, and debate around the state of the art in machine learning and artificial intelligence.
8 early-career researchers from the local student AI community in Nigeria have gone thought a competitive selection process to be selected to attend Deep Learning Indaba 2022, however they need help covering the traveling expense. If you'd like to get to know them, here are their names:
- Abolade Peculiar Praise (@peculiarabolade)
- Busayo Awobade (@neo_fweranmi)
- Comfort Adesina (@__Oluwadamilola)
- Emmanuel Akanji (@manny_uncharted)
- Jumobi Joshua Esther (@AdejumobiJoshua)
- Mardiyyah Oduwole (@hemhemoh)
- Steven Kolawole (@steveddev)
- Abraham Owodunni (@abrahamowos)
A full statement from the eight researchers can be found here, with links to their full profiles.
From them:
Our major purpose in attending this event is to learn as much as possible from the experts attending, partake in the workshops and also ensure we do not miss out on networking, mentorship and collaboration opportunities, as well as on the showcase of Artificial Intelligence research in Africa.
We are raising $15k to support these researchers to attend. This amount will help cover their airfare, visa fees, and housing while at the conference. This sheet lists a breakdown of how the raised fund is going to be allocated. Your donation is fully tax-deductible. ML Collective Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, Tax-ID/EIN: 85-2682932.
