We are deeply saddened to hear about the recent cancer diagnosis of a service dog (Barrett) was helping a combat sniper suffering from traumatic brain injury. Barrett brought so much joy and comfort to Alan Baker and his family.  Barrett had 2 masses on his bladder and another in his lungs. Barrett had been a faithful companion to Alan, who served a total of 29 years in the military across three different branches: Navy, Airforce, and Army.

Who: Alan Baker, a 29 year Combat Veteran of 3 different branches of the military, suffers from multiple issues related to getting shot in the head by a sniper in the Gulf War while clearing a minefield.   Alan & Barrett graduated in the Top Dogg K9 Foundations inaugural , service dog training class in 2019. The class was welcomed by Home Depot founder Arthur Blank and the Home Depot Back Yard.

Barrett:  Alan's beloved service dog, a Black Russian Terrier has been by his side nearly (6) years.  Barrett was very much a big part of the family for Alan's kids and grandkids.  The family is completely heartbroken by his passing.

Top Dogg K9 Foundation:   A non-profit 501(C3) Aims at improving the lives of both our nation's heroes and saving innocent dogs from euthanasia.  For over 10 years Top Dogg K9 Foundation has been at the forefront of the fight to save veterans from suicide and suicidal ideations.  TDK9 does this by rescuing, training and gifting service dogs to disabled and combat veterans returning home from war forever changed.  

We knew that Barret wouldn't be here much longer with us and the family but were not prepared for him passing only 2 days after his diagnosis.  We celebrate Barrett's life and the impact that he has had on Alan's life and the lives of countless other veterans. Service dogs like Barrett provide vital  support to disabled veterans and help them lead more fulfilling lives.
