This past July, Milagro had its first staged reading at Oregon Contemporary Theatre in Eugene, OR with artists and collaborators from New York, Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland, and Eugene signed onto the project. The reading was a huge success and was especially instrumental in revealing where the creative team needed to focus their energy on lyric re-writes, trimming and further development.
The next step for Milagro has developed very quickly! This weekend, in fact, we are gathering for a private 2-day development workshop in Los Angeles, CA with our core creative team and a cast of actors who will read from the developing script. We have been connected with Studio Luna (https://www.holastudioluna.org/), aka Teatro Luna, formerly Chicago's first and only all Latina theater, now in Boyle Heights, LA. We will gather there for a casual reading of the newest draft with a lovely new cast — and 5 out of the 7 of our actors are part, or fully Guatemalan!
While we have housing figured out for our core team, we still need assistance with our remaining travel costs, in addition to compensation for our artists. We are seeking support to help us pay our actors (each will receive a $75 stipend) and we are providing morning snacks at the reading.
With the ever-changing economic climate, we can only move forward with the support of our community, friends and family who believe in this project and want to see it develop at the next level, as much as we do. We truly believe Milagro is the kind of art we need in the world right now — a story of transformation that celebrates the beauty found within the pain and trauma of our past. With your help, we can take Milagro to the next level! Thank you!!
