Children in the Philippines living in extreme poverty struggle to access basic necessities. Many families simply can’t afford food, water, or medical care.

Meet Mirei.

She is 4 months old, and her parents are already facing decisions no family should have to face this early, decisions filled with fear, hope, and the question that never really leaves: what happens if we wait too long?

Mirei has spina bifida. In Mirei’s case, doctors described it as lipomyelocele with a tethered cord, meaning her spinal cord is stuck in place instead of moving freely. As Mirei grows taller, that cord can be pulled and stretched, and her family was told this can lead to nerve damage over time if she doesn’t get surgery.

That’s what makes this so heavy for her parents: Mirei is growing every day, but the risk can grow with her.

Her parents have talked and made their decision. They are not asking for something extra. They are asking for surgery, because they want to protect Mirei’s spine and reduce the risk of preventable damage later on.

This fundraiser is for Mirei’s surgery, so she can receive the surgery she needs as soon as possible.

If you feel moved to help Mirei, a donation can bring her closer to treatment. And if donating isn’t possible right now, sharing her story helps it reach the people who can.

Maya’s Hope works to improve the lives of orphaned, impoverished, and special-needs children worldwide.
