Anastasia is only 6 years old. Because of her serious medical conditions, she cannot sit, walk, roll over, or speak independently. She requires constant assistance with every aspect of daily life. Now, Anastasia needs a major reconstructive hip surgery, and her family is asking for help to give their little girl the best possible chance for a life with less pain and fewer complications.
Anastasia is a bright, positive little girl who finds joy in the world around her. She loves spending time in the swimming pool and listening to fairy tales and poems. Despite everything she has endured, she continues to bring happiness to those who love her.
Her journey has been difficult from the very beginning.
Anastasia was born at 40 weeks. During delivery, she aspirated meconium-stained amniotic fluid, and her lungs were unable to function properly on their own. As a newborn, she was placed on mechanical ventilation, where she remained for three long weeks. Afterward came another hospital, eventually followed by discharge home and recommendations for continued medical monitoring.
As the months passed, Anastasia's parents noticed that her head was not growing as expected. When she was just three months old, they immediately took her to a neurologist, who diagnosed her with microcephaly.
More diagnoses followed.
At seven months, Anastasia was diagnosed with delayed motor and psycho-speech development and spastic cerebral palsy. At ten months, she began experiencing seizures.
Today, at 6 years old, Anastasia cannot sit, walk, roll over, or speak independently. She experiences seizures and significant muscle spasticity and is unable to care for herself. She depends on adults around the clock for her everyday needs.
For all six years of her life, Anastasia has been receiving ongoing medical treatment, taking necessary medications, and participating in physical therapy.
Her family's dedication has brought encouraging improvements. They have noticed a reduction in her muscle tone, and Anastasia is sleeping better. But her treatment journey is far from over.
Anastasia Now Needs Major Hip Surgery
Due to the effects of cerebral palsy, Anastasia has developed a paralytic dislocation of the hip that requires surgical correction.
Her doctors have recommended a complex reconstructive operation, sometimes referred to as a “triple” hip reconstruction.
The surgery involves three major procedures:
-
Open reduction — surgically returning the dislocated hip to the correct position in the socket.
-
Corrective femoral osteotomy — cutting and repositioning the femur (thigh bone) to improve the alignment of the hip.
- Pelvic osteotomy — surgically reshaping the pelvis to provide better coverage and stability for the hip joint.
The goal of this surgery is to restore stability to Anastasia's hip, improve its alignment, and help prevent further deformity, pain, and complications.
Following such a major operation, Anastasia will also need recovery, rehabilitation, and continued medical care.
