Baby Caitlyn’s Fight for Fresh Breath
At just 17 months old, little Caitlyn is fighting a battle much bigger than her tiny body. She was born with Patau Syndrome, an incredibly rare genetic condition that affects only 5 out of 5,000 people in the Philippines. For Caitlyn, this means her brain has a hard time growing properly (cerebral atrophy) and sometimes suffers from sudden, overwhelming electrical storms called epilepsy.
Because of how this condition affects her body, Caitlyn’s lungs are currently too tired to work on their own. She is hooked to a ventilator in the hospital, and every time the doctors try to let her breathe by herself, she struggles to catch her breath. It is a heartbreaking reality that led doctors to gently warn her mother that Caitlyn could become an angel at any moment.
But when you look past the medical machines, you see a beautiful baby girl who loves to smile at her mom. Her mom's biggest dream isn't wrapped in wealth, she simply wishes with all her heart to see Caitlyn do what other children do: to walk, to talk, and to go to school one day
