Christ, our Lord, has told us to “go and preach the Gospel to all nations.” All who are members of  the Body of  Christ are called to this, especially those Catholics who still hold the true faith. The number one way we are called to evangelize is simply by living holy lives and doing our duty where we are in the world. But how can we, Friar, expect the faithful of  God to stay out there in a world which has lost all right reason and is bent only on what offends the Living God? This is why we want to build a place of  prayer and retreat so that you have a place to come to, where the friars can receive you and support you spiritually

We, the Marian Friars Minor, a group of  men striving to live an authentic religious form of  life, as founded by St. Francis of  Assisi, and lived by innumerable men of  the holy life for over 800 years, are working to build a place of  prayer and retreat for dedicated Catholics.

Understanding the dire reality of  the state of  the Church and the state of  society today, we firmly believe that the most effective solution to these problems is to foster Holiness in the faithful, a Holiness which is only possible by and through a life of  prayer. 

Many today seek to flee the world and gather together in small communities to get away from it all (Benedict Option), but if  we Catholics do that, we who have received Holy Confirmation, do that, then how will those who are so lost today ever find the living God and their ultimate salvation?

This is why we want to build a place of  prayer and retreat so that you have a place to come to, where the friars can receive you and support you spiritually.

The project is quite simple. We know that times are hard and money is tight, so we have decided to try and accomplish this goal in the most economical way possible, starting with using the trees on the property and building with traditional timber frame construction, which we friars will be learning to do ourselves.

Thanks to your initial(and greatly genereous) contributions, the property, which consists of a large chunk of  the money required, is now in the final stages of being acquired for use of the Friars, the cost having come out to roughly $450,000 for ~70 acres of  land. 

It is this piece of land which we will develop in three sections. 

First, there will be the Friary and the Church, with meeting areas for the faithful.

Just below the friary area, there will be the main lodge which should house roughly 40 persons with a kitchen and dining area that will also serve to host conferences, etc.

The third area will be for families. Often families have very little opportunity to attend to the spiritual life by way of  spiritual retreats due to a lack of  suitable accommodations for the whole family.

It is our hope to build 3 houses to start with; which will each have three bedrooms and a loft. This should allow for families to come and stay.

Through our Third Order members and the Friars, we hope that we will be able to provide some activity, both physical and spiritual for the children while the parents are able to attend the spiritual exercises or time with our Lord in prayer. 

In the future, we hope also to have a few hermitages, with some of  these being built in the trees (meaning Tree house hermitages).

In all, we believe that we can do this project with 2 million dollars. 

We do not want to exhaust resources on extravagance but desire modesty, austerity, and a place suitable for members of  the Church Militant at prayer.
