The Untreated Epidemic: Understanding and Treating Long COVID and ME/CFS
Presented at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, November 6, 2023

The ongoing COVID-19 pandemic has significantly increased the population of chronically ill patients, triggering a wave of disability that we call “the untreated epidemic.” Up to 45% of people continue to have ongoing debilitating symptoms more than 6 months following acute COVID infection. About half of Long COVID patients meet the diagnostic criteria of ME/CFS. The majority of these patients are currently undiagnosed and undertreated.

This event will provide education on the diagnosis and treatment of Long COVID, ME/CFS, and other infection-associated chronic conditions. We are incredibly excited that Dr. Lucinda Bateman will be our in-person keynote speaker. Dr. Bateman is an internationally recognized expert on ME/CFS and the Founder and Medical Director of the Bateman Horne Centerone of the world’s premier institutions of medical education, research, and clinical care for Long COVID and ME/CFS patients. Dr. Bateman will provide Grand Rounds for medical professionals and students and answer questions in our Q+A session.

We are also thrilled to announce that Lisa McCorkell, the Co-Founder of Patient-Led Research Collaborative and a Long COVID patient researcher, will speak at this event. Additionally, we have organized a patient/caregiver panel, interviews and a Q+A session with disability advocates, information tables, and posters designed to educate our audience on complex chronic conditions.

This day of medical education will be held virtually and in-person, with 120 seats available for in-person attendees. We give special thanks to our host, the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, for making this event possible, along with the generous support of people like you.

#MEAction New Hampshire is entirely volunteer-run, and we couldn’t have planned this event without donor support.

If you would like to donate by card, you may do so through this page. If you would like to donate by check, please make it out to #MEAction along with a note on the memo line indicating that it is for the “NH Dartmouth Event,” and mail it to the address below. Your gift will contribute to travel expenses, catering, event programming, technical support, and resources like masks and hand sanitizer to make this day of medical education as accessible as possible for chronically ill attendees.

Our goal is to fundraise $20k to cover all costs of this event, which is dedicated to the most neglected and underserved chronic illness communities in the New England region

Thank you to our generous donors and supporters who have made this special event possible!
