In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.
"Our story, our struggle for a healthy childhood began on June 26, 2013. Makarchik is a long-awaited child. We were looking forward to the birth of our baby. But on that day, our life was divided into before and after. The negligence of doctors and a traumatic birth caused convulsions. 13 days of resuscitation, respiratory arrest, diagnoses incomprehensible to me, and bacterial meningitis was added. And, of course, everything had dire consequences.
Now Makar's diagnosis; Cerebral palsy, spastic tetraparesis, microcephaly, delayed psychomotor development.
In 7 years we have learned to sit, crawl, stand with support, walk with help but we still do not keep our balance. He knows animals, cars, trains etc in pictures. He partially understands the addressed speech. And this is a lot, because the doctors gave not at all comforting forecasts.
We accepted our diagnosis, we learned to live a special life and are grateful to every person who met on our way."
Makar is currently in need of diapers. Can you help us provide him with these for the next 3 months?
