In Ukraine, families with children are at high risk for poverty. During peaceful times, an estimated 250 children enter the orphanage system daily. There are 100,000 children confined to institutional care in Ukraine, one of the highest rates in the world.
During war especially, state-run orphanages are the most neglected in Ukraine. So Maya's Hope took patronage of an orphanage in the Western region of Ukraine.
There are currently 150 children from 6 to 18 years old in this orphanage. All students are diagnosed with intellectual disabilities of varying degrees and have concomitant diagnoses. In September, they will welcome 100 more children from temporarily occupied territories and reach the maximum capacity.
Due to a large number of children of very active age, washing and cleaning need to take place regularly. But more than half of the appliances don’t work or are so old that they are expected to stop working at any moment. And the working ones are small and are not suitable for the number of children served.
To keep the place clean and maintain sanitary standards, the orphanage desperately needs an industrial-grade washing machine and spin dryer.
Can you help us purchase these much-needed appliances for the orphanage?
Maya’s Hope helps disadvantaged children living in poverty and helps provide hope by instilling value and purpose in each child.
