Maya's Hope: Surgery for a Boy with Cerebral Palsy

In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.

"Arseny was born prematurely.  He spent several weeks in intensive care, as he could not breathe on his own.  The baby's condition gradually began to improve, but there was a sudden cessation of breathing.  And again resuscitation, and artificial ventilation of the lungs.  Due to oxygen starvation, the boy's brain suffered.  The forecasts were unfavorable.

Arseny's parents almost immediately began therapies. Mom became his arms, legs, coach and teacher. Arseny has visited many rehabilitation centers. Contrary to the doctors' forecasts, the boy began to hold his head, roll over and crawl, and at the age of four he began to talk.

Arseniy is now 12 years old. Thanks to the perseverance of his parents, the boy can do a lot. He has one working hand - with it he can eat on his own and tries to type on the keyboard. Crawls quickly, moves with support, masters a light wheelchair.

Every year and a half, Arseny undergoes an operation according to the Ulzibat method. The goal is to remove contractures, limb deformities and pain. Thanks to this operation, for the next two years the boy lives as comfortably as possible with his diagnosis.

According to his mother, Arseny would have been bedridden if the operation had not been performed using this method. It must be done every one and a half to two years, until the boy's growth stops.

The family asks for help, since only dad works and the disability benefit is about $65."

Can you help us fund Arseny's surgery?
