In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.
"Raisa is 12 years old. She was recently in the hospital in the diagnostic and infectious department with bilateral lower lobe pneumonia and respiratory failure. Maya's Hope helped fund her medicines. She recovered and was discharged home.
Several weeks after she was discharged, she had a seizure which caused her to fall from her wheelchair. Her mother knew something was wrong and took her to the hospital. An xray showed she had fractured her leg in the fall.
The girl has had a disability since birth, agenesis of corpus callosum. She needs constant care from her mother. Raisa does not speak, but understands everything. She is a very positive and happy child when she is well.
She is from a large family. The oldest sisters are 18 and 21 years old. Her brothers go to boarding school. The father left his family a couple of years ago, so support is needed for her mother at this difficult time."
Can you help us raise the funds needed for Raisa's medical treatment for her leg fracture?
Maya’s Hope helps disadvantaged children living in poverty and helps provide hope by instilling value and purpose in each child. We are celebrating 10 years of bringing hope to children around the world.
