In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.
"Lisa is 10 years old. She was born at 34 weeks with a weight of 2100g, During the first 10 days she was in intensive care, then 2 months. in the premature ward. When Lisa was 1 year old, her father left and all the worries, burdens fell on me alone. Lisa was diagnosed with Marden-Walker syndrome (the only diagnosed case in Ukraine), atrophy of the optic nerves and developmental delay. They told me that the child will not walk, sit, speak, and many more negative predictions... But for 9 years we have been constantly taking rehabilitation courses, which has paid off."
Lisa is currently in need of diapers for the next 6 months. Can you help?
