In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.
"We live in a small village and always counted on our strengths, but unfortunately, not always it turns out. Our family has 2 boys - Sasha (15 years old) and Arthur (24 years old). They have the same diagnosis: genetic pathology, congenital malformations of the heart, brain, cerebral palsy, severe developmental delay, epilepsy. Sasha and Arthur have undergone rehabilitation courses more than once, but due to their severe form of epilepsy, this does not happen often. They are on anticonvulsant therapy, levicitis and topiromax. When the boys feel good they are very positive and sociable, love music and cartoons. The state almost does not help us, citing a lack of funding. I work as a nurse on night shifts, and my husband in the afternoon. Despite everything, we have the best family! And we are happy when the boys are healthy!"
Sasha has recently been having bleeding from his bowel and has been undergoing tests at the hospital. No cause has been found yet but his appetite has decreased and he is refusing food. All he will take is formula. So his family have asked for additional formula for him for the next month.
We want to help this family during this very difficult time by purchasing diapers and formula for Sasha for the next 3 months. Plus additional formula for this month. Can you help?
