In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.
Olya is 6 years old. Her birth was a difficult one and she sustained a hypoxic brain injury. As a result she has been diagnosed with Ataxic Cerebral Palsy. (Ataxic cerebral palsy is a type of cerebral palsy that affects a person's balance, coordination, and depth perception.) Olya is also visually impaired. She can stand and walk with someone holding her hand. But she cannot walk independently yet. Her mother does all she can to help her develop and thrive but she has epilepsy herself so money is always tight.
They both also had COVID recently but thankfully they have recovered.
We want to support them by purchasing diapers and medicines for Olya for the next three months. Can you help?
