In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.
"Good day! My name is Irina, I am the mother of a special boy Sasha, born in 2016. My son was born prematurely at 31 weeks of pregnancy with a deep prematurity, due to immaturity my son has a lot of trials and health problems, retinopathy, severe damage to the nervous system.
Instead of joy and a happy childhood, our family began numerous treatments and rehabilitations, but in a year my son was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, spastic tetraparesis, and again rehabilitation, the struggle for childhood, for new skills.
My son is a very smart boy, he understands everything, but due to his diagnosis it is very difficult for him to grow on his own, doctors advise regular classes and rehabilitation. Our family makes every effort to treat and love our son, and Sasha is happy with his results. But rehabilitation is needed regularly, and our family is financially struggling.
It is very difficult to provide your son with everything he needs. Therefore, they are forced to turn to you for help with essentials such as diapers."
Can you help us provide Sasha with diapers, wipes and incontinence sheets for the next three months?
