Maya's Hope: Diapers and Vitamins for a Boy with Cerebral Palsy

In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.

"I am the mother of a young son Oleg, born in March, 2014, who was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, lower mixed tetraparesis as a result of early hypoxic-ischemic brain damage.

The whole family was looking forward to Olezhik’s birth and there was no sign of trouble. The pregnancy went well, but the birth was difficult, as a result Olezhik was born with a hematoma on his head and water in his lungs. Immediately after birth, he was placed in the intensive care unit where he was on a respirator.  From the first minutes of his life he had to fight for his life.  With faith in our hearts and longing for little Olezhik's life, we overcame some of the most difficult moments in our lives.  And from that moment on, the peace in the family ended and the restless life in hospitals and rehabilitation centers began.

I can't accept such a diagnosis and I try to do everything to get Olezhik on his feet.  After all, cerebral palsy is not a sentence, but an obstacle course, having successfully passed which you can find a long-awaited reward. The essence of which is that everything passes, and remains what you put the most effort, time, effort, strength and emotion;  what they fought for and fought for was the right to a full life.

Sometimes, we just drop our hands, but it is worth looking into those smart and devoted eyes and there is hope and new strength - every new movement, new sound, new step is a great victory and joy for us.

So now.  Do not lower your hands.  We need to move forward.  We have already gone a long way, and we need to move on.

I am writing to you because sometimes there are not enough funds even for ordinary and necessary things for a son, such as diapers, not to mention developmental classes and rehabilitation, so that the son can walk on his own.

This charitable help (diapers size - 6, wet wipes, and if possible vitamin juices for my son) I need because my son Oleg has a diagnosis of cerebral palsy and Olezhyk sometimes asks to go to the toilet, but often forgets. Therefore, he constantly needs to wear diapers. If you have the opportunity to help with diapers for our son, I will be very grateful to you, because Olezhik's father died in January 2018, so I am raising my son and I try to make sure that every step is aimed at ensuring that my son can live fully."

Can you help us purchase diapers and vitamins for Oleg for the next three months?
