In Ukraine, parents of children with special needs are encouraged to hand their children over to state care. They are told their children are a burden on society. Children are sent to institutions where they are subjected to abuse and neglect. There is minimal support available to parents who fight to keep their children with them. Maya's Hope wants to help relieve some of the burden on these amazing parents and assist in keeping children with their families, where they belong.
"Our son was born on September 3, 2016 at the 32nd week of pregnancy, with a weight of 1880 grams and a height of 40cm. From the first days, when he was born, he fought for life. The first two weeks he was breathing on his own, then quickly gained weight and went home. But unfortunately, at 6 months, something went wrong. Yan started having seizures, and again hospitals, examinations. And we were diagnosed with West syndrome. For 3.5 years we have been on drugs that inhibit development. Then he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy.
Now Yan is 4 years old and he is fighting for a healthy life. For a full-fledged childhood: playing in the sandbox with your peers, kicking a ball, riding a bike ...
In our years, we have not learned to sit and crawl on our own. Muscles grow, and at the same time spasticity builds up. A lot of our money is spent on therapy and rehabilitation for Yan."
To help Yan and his family, we want to purchase his diapers for the next three months. Do you want to help?
